The beginning of the wedding season is right around the corner, and if you’re the lucky bride or groom, you need to be prepared for the first dance. We’ve compiled a list of thing you should keep in mind so that your dance is an overwhelming success.

Have Multiple Song Options

A song that means a lot to you may not be one that is danceable. Pick out a few different songs and have your dance instructors help you decide which will work best. Your instructors will be able to determine what sort of dance fits with what song.

Prepare With the Arrangement

If you are going to have a live singer, be sure they get a chance to practice together if possible. Have the singer record their version of the song so you are all working with the same tempo. You can also get a live band for the best dance experience, and if not, be sure your DJ can adjust the tempo of your CD so you can dance at a speed that suits you.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Schedule at least 3 lessons to give yourself time to become comfortable with the dance. If you only schedule 3 lessons, the first lesson should focus on the basics of the dance. The second lesson can add some more complicated moves. The last lesson should establish the structure of your dance with an emphasis on feeling comfortable with the beginning and end.

Wear Similar Shoes

Practice in the same or similar shoes to what you will be dancing in at the wedding. If you will be dancing in heels it is absolutely necessary to practice in them beforehand. Gentleman should avoid thick rubber soled shoes that will stick to the floor. Smooth leather soles are preferable.

Don’t Just Do Choreography

Don’t choreograph the whole dance. Choreograph the beginning and the end so that on your cue the DJ or bandleader can finish and segue into the next dance. Allow room for improvisation. Give yourself a finishing move that you can put in whenever you are ready to be done.

Have Us Choreograph Your Dance

We understand that it’s your wedding day, and the last thing you need to do is stress about choreography. You need to be able to relax and enjoy yourself. Let us choreograph your wedding dance for you to ensure that you are comfortable with the dance and that you will leave your guests floored. Contact us to schedule your first session.
